We're Three! Here's 3 Lessons Our Team Members Learnt In The Last Year!
BoldType turned three this month and it has been a fantastic journey for the company and team whilst collaborating with our clients.
Staying true to our fundamental beliefs in growing and achieving through collaboration, we have been trusted by a number of clients to deliver impactful results and ideal reputations.
As a team, we believe in the importance of continually learning and remembering that our actions have impact. Here’s what our team learnt over the past year.
Ben King, BoldType Founder and Creative Director
- Don’t always try and find the answers to a problem yourself. Work clever as the answer is likely just a phone call or a single email away.
- Make decisions! I don’t mean be rash and purely instinctive, and neither do I mean spend days and weeks weighing up the pros and the cons. Find a balance where decisions are made promptly but with enough information and collaboration, so progress can be made.
- Enjoy the journey. I used to get really hung up on goals, targets and metrics. I recognise these are important in measuring successes, but I also now take time to enjoy the journey. Nothing in business is ever completely finished, so don’t purely measure your own success this way, instead recognise and celebrate the wins along the way, no matter how small.
Holly Corns (nee. Goldingay), Brand Design Partner
- Streamlined communications key to successful project management. In today’s world of collaboration, organised communication is key. It is important to know the key roles played by each team member in order to efficiently communicate options, circumstances and expected outcomes to deliver successful projects.
- Giving back. Being in the creative industry is a privilege. With its everlasting competitiveness, it is important to pass our knowledge and experience on to future generations and help them where possible to get their foot in the door.
- Kidney beans aren’t all that bad. Known for being a fussy eater, I’ve been expanding my culinary taste over the past year which has opened up a whole new world! Kidney beans are the biggest of all yet – especially with their weird texture.
Ant Porter, Digital Designer & Front End Developer
- When designing and developing, never lose sight of the end user and how they will best benefit from the product.
- Approach all aspects of work as a problem solver, first and foremost.
- Be kind to your pets. They’re around for a chapter of your life journey; but to them you’re the whole journey.
Nikki Goh, Communications & Messaging Strategist
- Challenges are easier when you open up to the right people on what you are struggling with – don’t be afraid to ask for help.
- Plans and guidelines are important to keep things on track but equally, it is important to be agile and flexible to keep the momentum going when a spanner shows up in the works.
- I need to allocate at least 15 minutes a week for “Cat-talk” with Holly – it’s important for our mental health!
